The Art Attack Foundation is proud to announce CHICKS & GIGGLES - A Night of Clean Comedy featuring the comedic talents of Cindy Shields, Helen Hong, Gayla Johnson, Katie Love and Etta Mae Mumphries. This fundraising event will take place on Friday, March 2, 8pm at the Hermosa Playhouse (710 Pier Ave, Hermosa Beach, CA)
This one-night only show promises an evening of clean comedy from some of today’s funniest headliners. Founded by Dan Watt, the Art Attack Foundation’s mission is to inspire community leaders, businesses, and individuals to participate and contribute in the education, enhancement and development of young performing artists. AAF is dedicated to providing opportunities, funding, and encouragement to assist young performers in realizing their full artistic potential.
This fundraiser is to raise monies and awareness for the Foundation’s “adopt-a-kid” program. The goal of this program is to find supporters who will sponsor children who are less fortunate and do not get the opportunity to attend live theatre. Children should have the opportunity to experience art as an inspiration and be encouraged to reach their creative potential. The program is dedicated to the exposure, education, and enrichment of those in the community who otherwise would not have the opportunity.
Cindy Shields, the emcee for the night and also a performer says, “I support the arts because it is not only soul-enriching but sometimes an instrument of healing, both for the artist and audience. I teach theatre arts to kids and have watched them blossom right before my eyes! I'm so grateful for the Art Attack Foundation and all it does to put the arts into the hands of those who may not otherwise get that opportunity. Art expresses what we can't always say- sometimes it speaks for all of us - such a GIFT!"
Chita Rivera, the Chairperson of the Art Attack Foundation states, “Now, more than ever, young people with talent need our help with training, support, encouragement and above all opportunity. That is exactly what Art Attack provides, and why they need our help, in order to accomplish all that they can achieve. Through this program we hope to inspire, encourage, and cultivate the arts in our youth and who knows we might ignite a fire and help in the development of a future star in the arts. I am proud and delighted to be a part of this fine organization.”
Participating in this night of comedy are:
HELEN HONG a regular panelist on NPR's “Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me” and host of the trivia podcast “Go Fact Yourself” on the Maximum Fun network.
KATIE LOVE performer at such venues as The Comedy Store, Hollywood Improv, Laugh Factory, Flappers and author of the forthcoming memoir, “Knock, Knock! Growing up Jehovah’s Witness.”
GAYLA JOHNSON can be seen on Showtimes “Fierce Funny Women”, “Comics Unleashed”, B.E.T Comic View and recently a guest star on the TV show Scandal.
ETTA MAE MUMPHRIES is the “altar” ego of veteran actress/writer/comedienne Karen Bankhead. Etta Mae is part of the award winning one-woman show, “The VO-5 Experience,” performed at the HBO Workspace and an official selection of the United International Solo Fest, NYC. Karen Bankhead has appeared in several TV projects including “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, “Gilmore Girls”, “Will & Grace” and “Reno 911”.
CINDY SHIELDS DELETE THE WORD performs stand-up all over L.A. at The Ice House, The Comedy Store, and regularly at Flapper's Comedy Club. She has performed with Channel 4 weather/funnyman Fritz Coleman, AGT's Drew Lynch and Wendy Liebman, Craig “Lovemaster” Shoemaker, and SNL's Chris Kattan. She can be seen on "Loosely Exactly Nicole", "In His Favor", and Consumer Cellular commercials.
Watt says, “The Art Attack Foundation nurtures and supports talent through scholarships, education, training, stage performances, and our community out-reach programs. This is our 14th year celebration and we are excited that these amazing comics have come together to help us support the arts. This fundraiser will give kids an opportunity to experience live theatre for the first time and hopefully inspire them to follow their dreams.”
