Catch the Pee Wee Herman show live!!

The Pee Wee Herman Show, starring the original Paul Reubens, is playing a limited engagement through February 7, 2010. This theatrical production is for grown-ups and appropriate for ages 16 to 106 - the show you grew up on is shedding its safe-for-kids facade and going straight for the adults-only gut. Due to popular demand, the show is moving from The Music Box Theatre (previously announced), which was set to begin November 8th.

To the generation that grew up with his groundbreaking Saturday morning television show, Pee-wee Herman is an icon.  He's made it into the history books and is studied in colleges, and his huge cultural influence continues to echo in fashion, film and television.

This version of “The Pee-wee Herman Show,” has been adapted from the original production. Featuring all the characters you knew and loved when you were a kid, like Miss Yvonne, Mailman Mike, Cowboy Curtis and Jambi the Genie, Pee-wee’s talking chair, Chairry, Pterri the pterodactyl, Conky the robot, Magic Screen, Randy, and lots more.  Many of the show’s original artists are involved in this re-imagined production, so if you had any question about how real Pee Wee was going to get, there's your answer!

Grand Guignolers' Absinthe, Opium & Magic

There's a movement of sorts happening in theatre, a decidedly darker realm of theatrical performances that include aerialist, fire, cabaret, burlesque, and loves to include the audience. The Grand Guignolers is one of these all-inclusive experiences in the vain of Cirque Berzerk, Lucent Dossier, and the whole steampunk aesthetic.

Join the Grand Guignolers Fridays and Saturdays at the Art Works Theatre on a 1920s luxury cruise to Shanghai, the most decadent city in the 1920s with Sing Song Girls (Chinese geishas), brawling gangsters, opium dens, a dummy, blood and magic. Come early for the pre-show on-board festivities include absinthe & tea tasting, Charleston, photo booth, dancing, tango, Flashlight Follies, live travelogue and more. Suggested attire is vintage or period wear, of cocktail attire if you're feeling more conservative. The run was recently extended through January 23, so more Los Angelenos can flock to the Art Works Theatre to be transported to a smoky, hazy, glittering 1920s Shanghai.

KCRW Presents: Dengue Fever New Year's

If you're looking for something a little more mellow and chill this New Year's, look no further than The Mint, where ultrachill Dengue Fever and Pollyn will be holding it down and celebrating with you. They're even serving dinner, so get fancied up and catch dinner and a show for your New Year's!

Dengue Fever's psychedelic take on the Cambodian pop sounds of the 60s makes them one of rock'n'roll's most unique success stories. The band's latest release, the documentary feature film Sleepwalking Through The Mekong (DVD/CD Soundtrack) continues the story and evolution of the band as they travel to Cambodia as the first Western group to perform the music of Cambodia since the fall of the Khmer Rouge.

The Los Angeles trio, Pollyn, wrote and produced This Little Night. It was mixed by Kristian Riley and Dave Cooley (Silversun Pickups, Darker My Love, and Jaylib).  Pollyn has also produced official remixes for Gorillaz, Buffalo Daughter, Liquid Liquid, and Health.  Pulling influences from Massive Attack to Talking Heads to Billie Holiday, Pollyn's sound is unique and bold, but comfortingly familiar. Celebrate NYE at The Mint.  Dinner from 7:30-9:15, make your reservations now.

6010 W Pico Blvd, Los Angeles, Pollyn at 10pm, Dengue Fever at 11:30pm, $25 in advance, $40 at the door.
